Creating A Stronger Workflow

The last time you moved, how did everything go? If you are like most people, there might have been a few things you wish you could go back and change. It isn't always easy to completely streamline something as large scale as moving, but with the right focus, you can make things a lot easier. I wanted to make things better in my own life when I found out I was moving, so I started doing some research. I learned so much that I decided to create a blog all about creating a stronger workflow during a relocation situation. I hope you enjoy it!

These Precautions Help Movers Avoid Injuries

Moving can be pretty dangerous, especially for those who have never handled similar projects in the past. Luckily, the following precautions will help you avoid moving-related injuries.

Use Equipment and Tools

Tools make work easier, and it is better to break a tool rather than break a limb. Thus, you should gather the right tools and equipment to help you move safely. Here are some of the things you may need:

  • Moving dollies
  • Moving straps
  • Furniture sliders
  • Hand trucks
  • Rollers

The type of tools you need depends on the nature and weight of your items. For example, you may even need a lift or crane to load a storage shed onto a moving truck.

Know Your Limits

Your body has a good sense of what is good or safe for it; listen to your body. If something feels heavy, then it is heavy. Don't look at the absolute weights of your moving boxes to decide which of them you can carry and which ones you can't carry; let your body be the judge. Let your equipment do the heavy lifting for each of your heavy boxes.

Wear Appropriate Clothes

Avoid loose clothing that can get trapped by furniture, moving equipment, or other things. For the shoes, wear enclosed shoes with non-slip soles. Such shoes will protect your feet in case something falls on them; the soles reduce the risk of slipping and falling.

Get Adequate Help

It is easy to underestimate the difficulties of moving if you have never handled a move before. You will need people to help you pack, move things out of the way, take care of the pets and kids, and load things, among other tasks. If you don't have enough friends or family members who can help you for free, get adequate help elsewhere.

Use Proper Lifting Techniques

You will be doing a lot of lifting and carrying lots of heavy stuff during your move. You should know the best techniques for lifting and carrying heavy things. Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Lift with your legs and not back; this means bending at the knees and keeping the back straight.
  • Push heavy things instead of pulling them; pushing is gentler on your body.
  • Turn with your whole body; don't twist at the waist or hips.
  • Keep heavy things as close to your body as possible while carrying them.

Again, it cannot be stressed enough that if something feels heavy, then it is heavy for you to carry.

Hopefully, the above tips will help you move without any injuries. Of course, you can ensure this will be the case by contracting a professional moving company like Baker Moving to help you relocate.
